Ever since I discovered these books back in 2010, I've been fascinated with the culture clash in the trilogy - between people from the present and people from the Bronze age (historical or original), and later also between second-generation Nantucketers and everyone else. But what especially caught my imagination was the experience of the "downtimers" whose world and culture are changing right around them, and who are adapting to this new world.

Kashtiliash, as an actual historical figure whose history is radically changed by the arrival of people from the future, is right at the heart of it all - and as prince and then king, he's one of the people in a position to shape these changes. Raupasha is propelled into the centre of events in a different way when the changed history puts her in position to make a significant difference both for her own life, for her people, and for Kashtiliash, whose enemy Tukulti-Ninurta she kills and whose father she saves. I would love a story that has these two interacting!

Kashtiliash is smart and adaptable and open to the new, but never to the point of forgetting the realities of the situation - the problems caused by the changes as much as the good. He sees the inevitability of change, and he's quick to adapt where necessary, but he's also very aware of the imbalance of power between his people and the Nantukhtar, and determined not to let them take too much control from him. I'd love to see more of him navigating all this. For Raupasha and her people, on the other hand, the Nantukhtar and Kenneth Hollard in particular are saviours, opening up an entire world of possibilities as she learns to navigate both the political situation and the strange context of conflicting cultures she finds herself in. Between her feelings for Kenneth and her drive to improve her people's situation, her missteps and successes, she grows into someone capable of having significant impact on the future of their world. I would love to see more of her growth.

Both Kashtiliash and Raupasha end up in a relationship with someone from Nantucket, and with siblings at that. I'd love to see anything about the culture clash in those relationships, perhaps a time when their different cultural context puts extreme strains on them. Or perhaps they find support in each other for the kinds of things that neither can truly talk about to outsiders? Anything that involves these two dealing with the balancing act between old and new would be great.

I'd also love something about Kashtiliash's views on women changing, not just through Kathryn Hollard in particular and the Nantukhtar in general, but also through Raupasha. Or something about politics regarding Mitanni, and Raupasha taking an active role in the planning. What if she had become queen of Mitanni after all? Or what happens to the alliance between Babylon and Nantucket once there's no longer a clear common enemy? What if Babylon's relationship with Nantucket becomes soured at some point? Or post-series - would Raupasha, even if she can't be queen, really turn her back on her people and leave? What could she do instead? What if her ideas don't fit with Kenneth's? Or what if Kashtiliash has plans for her that don't agree with Kenneth's - how would Raupasha handle being caught in the middle?

Or for something more experimental, maybe a history written in the future of this 'verse, examining their roles and impact?

These two shows have quite a bit of overlap in both tropes and themes! Both have people with special powers secretly living among humans and often seen as monsters when exposed, but who are ultimately just people; some of them have animal traits and an ability to transform. There's a strong theme around bigotry and prejudice. Several characters have secret identities and hidden agendas, which are slowly revealed to others, and there's all the suspicion and (dis)trust that comes with that. You have the cases of the week, in which often the seemingly obvious turns out to not be true at all. Both Guardian and Grimm have their central ethos about overcoming bigotry and working together, with main characters from different groups.

A fusion where both canons take place in the same world would be awesome. Maybe Dragon City is on Earth, not on Haixing - in China, or maybe "Haixing" is a separate small nation - or Haixing (which must, after all, have an English-speaking population, given the signs and such everywhere in Dragon City) has an equivalent to Portland. Maybe Wesen are the descendants of Yashou who underwent further mutations, or maybe, back when their spaceship first arrived, these ancestors divided into three groups, not two: the ancestors of Dixingren going underground, the ancestors of Yashou fusing with animal and plant DNA, and the ancestors of Wesen also fusing with animal DNA but taking a somewhat different approach. Maybe this is a world in which instead of Yashou, there are Wesen!

I'd love any thoughts on how the worldbuilding might fit together, characters from different backgrounds trying to figure out each other's identities/powers/agendas, etc.

Some ideas/prompts for character interactions - though of course feel free to go for something completely different for a worldbuilding fic instead: How about Shen Wei vs. the Grimm police officers, being his suspicious, opaque, unflappable and mildly trollish self at them? Maybe Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan are travelling on their honeymoon, and play innocent outsiders while getting drawn into Portland events. Maybe they're chasing a Dixing criminal all the way to Portland - or the other way round, maybe Renard is after someone in Dragon City, or Juliette during her downward spiral after her transformation doesn't stay in Portland but runs as far as she can from her old life, and ends up in Dragon City. (I'd love it if Shen Wei could give Juliette some help and advice, and/or he or Zhao Yunlan could help Nick get over his initial reaction.) Maybe Renard comes to Dragon City to talk to a contact, and meets Ya Qing, or maybe Ya Qing is looking for allies somewhere other than Dixing, and finds Renard. I think they'd clash and mesh in really interesting ways, hidden agendas and all. Maybe Grimm's seven keys hide one of the Hallows, or the wick of the Guardian Lantern, and the two teams meet on the quest? Maybe Portland is establishing an equivalent of the SID for dealing with Wesen cases, and our Guardian character(s) are called in as experts. Or how about Zhao Yunlan's worldwide livestream from a Portland perspective? Or it would also be very cool to have a Grimm case involving in Nick's or Rosalee's Wesen-related books that turn out to depict species or items from Guardian!

This mini-drama crams so much into its short runtime - enough for a full-length drama with all the spy shenanigans (trust, loyalty, betrayal!), the political intrigue and the insanely charged interactions between Li Yunzhen and Gu Xuanqing, the slow development of their relationship. It's an absolute delight. And the condensed format means that everything is distilled down to its most crucial and dramatic moments, which leaves a great deal of space for fic - both expanding on the drama itself, and what might happen afterwards.

Li Yunzhen is brilliant and scheming and kinky, and deceives everyone - I love the complex plan she devises, with everything hinging on her own ability to play her part, and she never falters, pulling it off perfectly all on her own even while falling for the man sent to spy on her. I love how even her own servants never suspect what she's really up to, much less her enemies. And I love Gu Xuanqing gradually realising the princess's public image and her character as he gets to know her don't add up, falling for her while seeing through part of her façade but not nearly all. I love his dedication and loyalty to his duty/the Emperor (he never considers betraying his mission, even while deceiving Li Yunzhen is increasingly weighing on him), but more and more also to the princess (even believing her to be corrupt, he still chooses to return to her and put himself into her hands), and the conflict between those sides, tension and divided loyalties and all. I love the dynamics between them and how they develop, the unapologetic kinkiness of it all. Li Yunzhen so clearly enjoys herself playing/being the dominant seducer - and Gu Xuanqing is entirely unprepared for finding himself actually into it, and wanting to hand himself over to her for real. And the only way he can balance things, at one point, is to keep deceiving her while accepting whatever punishment she hands out ...!

Seriously, I want more of anything and everything - the romance, the BDSM, the spy shenanigans, the loyalty kink, the political intrigue. :D

Some ideas: moments in between the scenes, adding more build-up to the tension or lingering on the fallout of events? Li Yunzhen's thoughts and feelings as she incorporates Gu Xuanqing into her plans, perhaps changing plans as she gets to know him and starts falling for him/trusting him? More of Gu Xuanqing's dilemma, and how he deals with discovering he wants to hand himself over to this apparently corrupt princess? How does she feel about that? All the loyalty issues, questions of trust, punishment tropes, that sort of thing - lean into this stuff and I will be very happy! Or if you'd like to incorporate backstory, maybe something with flashbacks to how Li Yunzhen came up with her plan, how she pulled it all off and built her reputation? Maybe post-canon, she tells Gu Xuanqing about it all? I'm also curious about her and her harem of bodyguards - what has she been doing with them? How did she gain her sexual confidence? What does Gu Xuanqing think about all of that? How do things change after the two of them get together - do they change? I'd also love anything about Li Yunzhen enjoying herself dominating Gu Xuanqing, or maybe her discovering just how much Gu Xuanqing is into it. Porn would be very welcome here. But non-sexual kink would be just as delightful! Or anything these two get up to together, in and out of bed. Post-canon, what do they do long-term? Li Yunzhen says she'll withdraw from court, but I can't imagine her being into a life of leisure, and I'd love any scheming she could do for her brother, and what part Gu Xuanqing might play in that.

I adore Luo Fei - he's quick and smart; he's sometimes sweet, sometimes abrasive; he can be a total mess (particularly regarding Captain). And Huo Wensi's calm cleverness and amused reaction to Luo Fei intrigued me from the start, but what particularly hit me was seeing him being beaten up in a prison courtyard while the look on his face said he was exactly where he'd planned to be. Together, the two of them absolutely fascinate me.

Dr Huo brings out very intriguing reactions in Luo Fei. Luo Fei is prickly and rude towards him without apparent reason, right from the start. He distances himself during their interactions, standing or sitting off to the side, looking away, or walking right out. He claims not to believe in psychology, but at the same time repeatedly puts considerable stock in Dr Huo's professional opinion, even after Dr Huo is in prison. Luo Fei wants nothing to do with Dr Huo - but doesn't even turn him down when Dr Huo asks him to help him court Xiaoman. And when Luo Fei desperately wants someone to confirm his theory that Captain is faking, he appeals to Dr Huo. Their dynamic doesn't change even after Luo Fei gets Dr Huo arrested. I'm very into the tangle of intense emotion/frustration/(dis)trust/obsession/intellectual appreciation between them, love and desire included, and I'd love anything that plays on it or explores where it's coming from. Anything that involves them having lots of tension, and/or resolving that tension - and regardless of how it goes, some genuine connection - would be great. Plot or PWP or character exploration, it's all good!

Some ideas: A missing case or a moment from one where they're forced to work more closely together? I also love the parallels between them, right down to them solving cases from the same clues, and would love something that leaned into that. Or what's Dr Huo's take on Luo Fei's behaviour towards him, as a psychologist? Do they have backstory that explains Luo Fei's attitude? Were they lovers once? A bad breakup could explain a lot! How about a missing scene where they have a relapse? Maybe Dr Huo manipulates Luo Fei into it, or maybe he's carried away himself. (Maybe both.) Or something about Dr Huo's role as a psychologist, in a case that has nothing to do with his extracurricular affairs. I'd also love to see them dancing - literally or metaphorically.

At the end of the show, Luo Fei is certain he has outwitted Dr Huo. Has Dr Huo lost control of his own plan? When he detonates the bombs, is he choosing suicide as his only way out? (Does he survive despite that?) Or is he that good an actor, and it's still all going according to plan? He has previously demonstrated a willingness to get himself arrested and beaten up in order to achieve his purposes, after all. And if Captain was faking all this time - what if Dr Huo and Luo Fei end up working together against the real Captain after the bridge, despite everything? Or what about an alternate ending, where things go differently after Dr Huo's escape from prison? Or some post-canon cat-and-mouse push-and-pull between them would be fantastic. Something twisty and evil on Dr Huo's part that's directed at Luo Fei is also very welcome, so long as it doesn't end entirely unhappily for either character. Likewise, redemption for Dr Huo would be great, but them remaining on opposite sides is also good, so long as there's a genuine mutual connection.

Also, in most of their scenes, Qin Xiaoman is stuck right in the middle of it all, talking to Dr Huo when Luo Fei won't, and being almost-courted by Dr Huo. She trusts his good intentions, for the most part, but doesn't always accept his conclusions. If you feel like it, I'd love to see how her inclusion might affect any of the scenarios Luo Fei and Huo Wensi might find themselves in, what her perspective looks like.

Canon link (Christabel): Christabel - Samuel Taylor Coleridge

I've always been fascinated with Christabel, its intensely atmospheric gothicness, its main characters and the subtextual eroticism of their dynamic, it's open unfinished state. Geraldine in particular has been interpreted as so many different things, almost all in some way readable as a symbol of sexuality and otherness, and like the poem itself by its readers, she's subject to various interpretations within the text. What, especially is "This mark of my shame, this seal of my sorrow"? So much to play with! And I'm very into the erotic tension between Christabel and Geraldine.

But ever since I watched Grimm I've been remembering one thing in particular. There's a bit that reads, "Behold! her bosom and half her side - / A sight to dream of, not to tell!" But in an earlier manuscript, the second line read, "Are lean and old and foul of hue", which reminds me immensely of the look of Grimm's Hexenbiests in their woge, all rotted, dried up and shrivelled. So - what if Geraldine is a Hexenbiest? She's canonically capable of magic: "In the touch of this bosom there worketh a spell, / Which is lord of thy utterance, Christabel!", so that would fit well. What if her magic backfired on her, or she's been cursed by a(nother) Hexenbiest, and that's where her mark comes from? Is she really the daughter of Roland, or is she impersonating that woman (perhaps via a Verfluchte Zwillingsschwester curse)? Why? What is her agenda, within a Grimm context? What if Christabel, perhaps, is a Grimm and therefore can see more than others? What if Sir Leoline is Wesen - Löwen, maybe? - and Christabel is half Grimm/half Wesen, and has been sheltered to hide that fact from those who would disapprove? Has her mother left something behind to protect her, which reacts against Geraldine? Maybe, like Nick, Christabel knows nothing until now - what will she do once she learns about her own heritage, and the Wesen world?

Or what about the other way round? What if, in the modern day, the Grimm team works a case that turns out to be related to Christabel and Geraldine? There could be a Grimm book or a Wesen history that depicts them and their history! Or something set in some completely different time and place.

But those are just a few ideas. There are so many potential ways of fitting Christabel and Geraldine into the worldbuilding of Grimm! The show gave us a lot of hints at a vast history between Wesen, Royals and Grimms, so there's a lot to play with. I would love anything shows off how these two canons might mesh!

I am pretty agnostic concerning Robin's potential girlfriends - which is to say, I think Vickie's fun (and potentially more fun if she gets sucked into things in the 5th series), and the dynamic between Robin and Nancy is interesting, and there's lots of potential for what could have been in terms of Robin and Chrissy (parallel to Robin's interest in Tammy Thompson?) - and while we didn't get to see that much of Barb, what we did see...there seems like there could be potential there, y'know? I'll admit up-front that I'm a bit at war with lots of popular fanon in this part of the fandom, so my preferred flavors of Steve and Eddie include: cool older friends/annoying older siblings to the younger kids; just kinda ordinary guys, who've been shaped by their extraordinary circumstances; not served well by school/academically inclined, but not stupid; not particularly suffering from long-term physical after-effects of their adventures; romantics with some hang-ups around romance (bad role models, bad experiences); not interested in anything formally kinky; having more musical taste overlap than might be expected (Eddie likes a good song whatever form it takes, 'whatever's on the radio' included a fair amount of metal of various stripes in the 80s). Honestly, the bit from MCR's 'I'm Not Okay (I Promise)' video hits a lot of Eddie notes for me: You like D&D, Audrey Hepburn, Fangoria, Harry Houdini, and croquet. You can't swim, you can't dance, and you don't know karate..., even if he can textually swim and probably isn't a croquet fan*. But so does Wayne's World, lol. While Steve's big notes for me are his physicality, his emotional intelligence, his grasp of tactics, and the effort he puts into his appearance and taking care of his car. Like, Eddie's a complicated plan kind of guy; Steve's grasp of tactics entirely derails that plan at the actual point of execution.

Also: love future-fic - as some of my opt-in choices may suggest - but very into things that explore how people's paths could have crossed outside of what we see in canon, canon-divergence AUs (obviously, given the pairing, haha), and just stuff that looks at what growing up/living in a small town (tho possibly county seat?) in the Midwest in the 70s/80s would've been like, as well. I like plotty stuff and porny stuff - and humor, besides! I love stories about people doing unexpected things - and if there's a group of more unexpected bobsledders than some Jamaican sprinters, I don't know who they'd be (presumably people from somewhere even flatter and hotter and not known for running, I guess, but specifically). And while the movie is, of course, a very Disney-fied version of actual events, I remember watching it back in the 90s and loving it - though I can't remember if I felt the same things about Junior and Yul's relationship then as I do now - and I still love it, despite its now more obvious weaknesses. Because the actors involved took the roles they were given and turned them into three-dimensional people who transcend the archetypes they're rooted in. And, in my opinion anyway, Yul and Junior totally steal the show in the background.

Yul is never going to get to own Buckingham Palace (though wouldn't it be amazing if he did?) - but does knowing that that's what it is put him off it forever? Or does it (eventually) make him want to visit it, just so he can say he's been inside? Or model some aspects of his (and Junior's) future home after it? Or build something even better? How might Junior make any of this happen? And backing up from that: do they intentionally stay in each other's lives after the Olympics? Or does it maybe start out as getting trotted around the country doing post-Olympics publicity stuff and accidentally turn into a habit? Or maybe they start drifting apart and then Junior finds himself in another situation where he's facing down his father and finding it difficult to say no, so he seeks out Yul - and things develop from there? Or, if you want to make it sexy, maybe they end up comforting each other with their bodies in the Olympic Village, after the crash cuts their race short, but decide that what happens at the Olympics stays at the Olympics (or does it?), more power to you. And relatedly, I'm into any interpretation of their sexualities you want to go with, from recent revelation to known forever but closeted, uncomfortable with themselves to regularly dancing with drag queens, gay or bi or undefined. So you should A) absolutely feel free to get weird, here. Because Chris is down for that, for sure. But also I'd love a plot where *Mitch* learns to get creative and zany, and he's the one suggesting the wacky plot that leads to shenanigans (and also sex)! Just bring it on!

Whoops, I went and incepted myself into a pairing! Or, well, I'm not sure I even ship them as a long-term thing - though if you wanted to convince me of that, I'm definitely not opposed - mostly, I'm feeling an equal-opportunity, bi Sherry who isn't oblivious to what's right under her nose, but who might be about to have her mind blown anyway! And a Jordan who hadn't actually considered the question of girls previously, but discovers she's (more than) up to the challenge once the proposition's been made. And, really, I love all members of The Like, past and present, and would love to read a story involving all of them being their crazy-ass selves or some awesome AU interpretation thereof. Seriously, they're awesome and I'm easy. I love that both Z and Tennessee are never anything less than unequivocally themselves, and always have been. I'm interested in stories where they navigated getting together alongside forming a band AND stories where they come to realize how much they mean to each other as a result of not being in each other's pockets all the time any longer. Did I say friends who started a band together? Because here we go again, lol. With bonus ending up in some other guy's band (hi, Gabe) together. But also: these guys are my fav for wacky scenarios. Ryland pretends to be other characters. Alex cooks stuff. They get high and get sucked into Gabe schemes, drift apart and come back together. Maybe they fall into making some kind of silly online content together during lockdown (Alex does cooking show challenges using whatever he can find in his cupboards/convince a grocery store to deliver; Ryland transforms into a cooking show host with a silly accent and over-the-top personality, maybe)? Maybe they start writing music together again, but it's not This Is Ivy League music, or Cobras music, or anything else they've ever been...maybe there's been love there all along, but they just couldn't see it for the sunglasses and the drugs and the fame. Maybe they end up back in Florida for some reason and have to navigate coming back to where it all began, but feeling like completely different people...

Butcher/SiskyBiz

And that did happen with this band, but this isn't the pairing for that. This is my fav oldest/youngest* band member pairing. Also, they're the rhythm section, which is another one of those intra-band bonds I love. But the best fics for them always had a sort of hazy glow of smoking up and lazing around in bed in late-morning sunshine about them. Flavored with a smidge of guilt on Butcher's part about 'seducing' (lol) his lead-singer's pseudo-little brother, and maybe some sense that they need to sneak around. Tbh, the age difference isn't that big (5 years! the same as between Gabe and Bilvy, or Pete and Patrick!), but SiskyBiz was DEFINiTELY underage when Bilvy started the band. So I'm also down for a bunch of pining while being in the same room (or even while fucking), missing each other while feeling like you just can't get much time together, Butcher not believing that Sisky is really trying to get his attention...or write current era fic where they're reconnecting and finding that the five years that felt like such a big deal when they were in their late teens/early twenties means nothing 20 years later!

There's no reason they'd particularly know about each other in the immediate aftermath of the Apocalypse that Wasn't (particularly back in the 90s, in the book canon timeline) - or even if they each somehow made the news, they certainly wouldn't seem important under the circumstances. But I like the idea of the universe bringing them together somehow. Running into each other at Uni. Finding each other online in 90s era usernet/messageboards/chatrooms. Somehow ending up penpals. I have so many thoughts and feelings about Computron, ok? We all know that he DOES have feelings, even without them being programmed into him, because of the ways he reacts. I would love to see something with him learning to acknowledge that about himself. I would love to see him learning more about what the world is like and more about people, through fandom and through ways fandom encourages him to do things that are new.

I love his friendship with bjornruffian and their collaboration, I would love a fic about them and fandom and their friendship.

As for Computron and Hexode ... what would it have changed things if Hexode had proved viable (would it have changed much? would there be armies of traumatized robots? would Computron and Hexode have been the only viable ones, together, keeping each other company and consoling one another?)? Or could Computron, knowing what he knows now, fix Hexode so that he does work. Would the museum own Hexode?

I would love a fic that delved into the thorny issues of personhood and autonomy and ownership and legalities--is Computron legally a person, or a possession? Does the museum own him? If they own him, are they aware of how messed up that is? If he's legally a possession, what would it take to change that? A court case? A law? Would the big software companies lobby against him getting legal personhood, because it would mean they have couldn't use the term "AI" any more without losing ownership of their programs? (I do want there to be some hopeful resolution at the end.)

Charles Parker/Mary Wimsey

Everybody treats Mary like she's a child who doesn't know her own mind, but she is only five years younger than Peter. In Clouds of Witness, she is 28 years old. I deeply dislike Sayers' trope of women who take up the interests of the men they fall in love with; I want her to be a leftie out of her own conviction. (Is that the reason it takes her and Charles so long to get together? He's so staid and conservative; maybe it took a while to negotiate what their relationship was going to be like.) I want her to get the respect she is denied by the narrative, and I want Charles to have someone he can have reasoned intellectual disagreements with. (I love that he reads theology for fun.)

Mervyn Bunter/Harriet Vane/Peter Wimsey

I absolutely cannot buy that Peter and Harriet's relationship would go the same way if he was in a pre-existing relationship with Bunter. Bunter is not like his mistresses, which bring mutual pleasure and enjoyment but have little real depth of feeling and are largely separate from his day-to-day life; Peter depends on Bunter for his healing and sanity. There are "jokes" in canon about how Bunter is basically his wife. It is an extremely important relationship to Peter, and I can't see sex making that less important. So he would not immediately propose in a jail cell, because he's basically already married and there would have to be a lot of negotiation before things went forward with Harriet. (When he visits Sylvia and Eiluned is he sounding them out discreetly as to how okay she is with gay men and threesomes?) There are so many points along their courtship and relationship where things would have changed based on that. I'd love to see them explored. Or you could have P/B not be pre-existing, and something about Harriet changes the dynamic enough that they have a belated relationship and end up in a triad where Harriet is the pre-existing partner? Or maybe a true menage a trois?

Mervyn Bunter/Peter Wimsey (Peter Wimsey)

When do they get together? During the war? After it? How does it affect their cases, and their social circle? Who knows about it (Bunter's mother? The Dowager Duchess? Charles Parker?)? How do they navigate the issues of Peter's fluctuating mental health? How does it affect their cases?

The snark! the vivid characters! the worldbuilding! the digressions! the wry-but-pointed social commentary on race and class and bureaucracy! the community and relationship building! Casefic is always welcome, but so is worldbuilding and exploring the demi-monde and magic, or character-focused stuff. I love stories that bring up weird aspects of the demi-monde and magic which Peter then has to deal with.

I love community-building. Peter goes out there and he gets to know people and builds relationships with them, and that opens up possibilities. There are good reasons things became fragmented, mostly the fault of the old Folly--but I love to see healing and reconciliation and new relationships growing.

Peter's not naïve, he knows how bad the world can get and how much evil can be done by the institutions he is serving, and yet he firmly believes that they can and should do better. I love how he is willing to risk himself to help people. I think Nightingale sees in Peter something he didn't know he was missing: a way to be and do better than the sins of the past he's been carrying around all these years. I think it's great that Nightingale's going to retire from the police to focus on teaching, I think that will allow much better scope for them both to grow, and yet still be working together. (Just in a different capacity.)

I'd love a story about magic becoming public knowledge (the conspiracy theories!) or an AU where it has been all along. Or Ettersberg never happened and the Folly is a large institution and Thomas is one wizard among many. Or Peter is the lone survivor of the old Folly, 100 years old, and Nightingale is the young new apprentice.

I find Beverly hard to parse in the earlier books. She's enough younger than Peter that the whole "suddenly we're pregnant and expecting kids! and everyone's happy about it!" is weird to me. Bev is in university! I would have expected her to prefer to wait. And then there's the fact that she's a goddess, and a geographical feature, and to some degree a reincarnation of a previous deity. So something exploring that dynamic from her perspective would be interesting.

Mamusu & Elsie: I'm curious about how they met, whether in London or in Africa. I headcanon that Mamusu was one of those Africans who was a professional back home but couldn't get anything but janitorial work in England because racism (and also because, in her case, she was taking care of a husband and kid and didn't have time to fight through the system). But what if she could have gotten a job as a librarian, and she and Elsie worked together in special collections? Or you could do something odd-couple-ish where the major events of both lives are the same, but they're still friends who do stuff together despite the vast differences in their backgrounds and lives.

I love alien culture worldbuilding, boldly going, exploring, wacky science hijinks, time travel, AU shenanigans. I love the hope that we can become better than we are. I love cross-cultural romance (especially when it deals realistically with having to figure out compromises--love is not all you need, you also need a lot of hard work and communication).

As for plot ... it's Star Trek. If you want to play it serious, go for it. If you want to lean into wacky tropes, that's great too. As long as everyone is in character, feel free to go as cracktastic as you want. One of my favorite things about DS9, it dealt with consequences. If you want to take a canon event that you think didn't get enough exploration and run with it, that would be awesome.

I'd love something that dove into Bajoran religion, and the more ALIEN it is the better. We've MET the prophet and they have such a fundamentally different perspective on EVERYTHING than us linear creatures, I don't want it to feel like another screed on What Is Wrong With Christianity In America. You could lean into the Prophets' timey-wimey non-linearity and what that means for a religion that worships them. Most Earth religions are heavily time-based, with regular repeating festivals that serve a lot of purposes both social and religious--how would that work (or not work) when worshiping beings who see everything happening at once? Or explore the Orbs! What other orbs are there besides Time and Prophecy, and what do they DO? You don't have to have any ritual or belief or ANYTHING to use them, if they have line-of-sight to you they can DO THINGS. Give you visions! Send you time traveling! Whatever it is the others do! No Earth religion has any artifact that is anything like that, and besides wondering what the other orbs even are/do, I'm curious as to how they shaped Bajoran religion, and how it was that the Bajorans ended up worshiping the ones who SENT the orbs instead of the orbs themselves. Especially given that the Prophets mostly ... don't seem to want to be gods or care about being worshiped or what's going on on Bajor or anything. So it's not like they were sending messages with the Orbs about who sent them and why, which leaves a lot of scope for interpretation on the part of the Bajorans who found them.

Sisko's position as Emmisary is fascinating, and how it shaped his relationship with Kira, and how he came to be more comfortable with it as the show went on. What was that like for Bajorans? He's an outsider! He doesn't believe in the Prophets! Especially after years of occupation and the Cardassians stealing the Orbs to experiment on, there's got to be more complexity to it than we saw on the show. What was it like for the Bajorans who served on DS9, for whom he was both commanding officer and religious figure. The Federation/Starfleet perspective on that had to be interesting.

I haven't read the novels, but I'm interested in the idea that after the show ended Kira eventually became a Vedek and later Kai.

I love Dax's relationship with Sisko, that lasted three hosts. What about when Sisko and Jadzia were still getting to know each other? They went from one power dynamic (Ambassador with lots of political power mentors callow youth) to a very different one (Sisko is all grown up, and Dax's superior officer, and with more life experience than Dax's current host). Negotiating that change must have been interesting, particularly if you throw in marriage to one of the hosts.

I thought that Kira and the O'Briens had a lot of chemistry, but also they have such radically different backgrounds and expectations. Culture, religion, childhood trauma--all radically different. I'd like to see how they could make it work.

I love to hate Dukat. You can use him as a villain, but don't ever forget that he's a manipulative weasel who most often actively chooses to do the worst thing possible. Even if he's doing something good in the moment, the moment is temporary.

As long as everyone is in character, feel free to go as cracktastic as you want with the time travel and travel to alternate universes and weird missions. I have not seen much modern Trek; I don't mind it if you bring in details from there, but I also will be fine if you just stick with TOS and maybe TNG.

My headcanon on Vulcans was shaped by 80s Trek novels (especially Spock's World) but I also enjoy trying to fit the Star Trek: Enterprise Vulcans with ... everything else we know about Vulcans. One thing I will point out, though, is that while there are a lot of things about Vulcan culture that seem/are sexist, the most powerful Vulcans we see throughout the series are elderly women. I love Pon Farr, but mostly dealing with the implications of it (both before and after) and not the sex part.

Sarek and Amanda and Spock: they have some messed up family dynamics. OTOH, I don't think TOS means for us to read them as dysfunctional as they do to modern people, given the changes in how family dynamics and child-rearing is perceived over the last sixty years. And also, "not speaking for 18 years" is less impactful when you consider how long Vulcans live. I'd be interested in anything from S&A being terrible parents to them being decent parents and things just going wrong. I'm also interested in how the larger cultural issues--what other Vulcans thought of their family, the repercussions in Vulcan/Human diplomacy, etc.--affected things. I'd love something at any point in the timeline. Spock as a kid! Spock as an ambassador! Five times Sarek almost called his son! Five times Spock almost called his parents!

Uhura & Chekov & Sulu: For a show that was so hyper-focused on the Big Three, we got some great character moments for the other characters, and I would love to see those fleshed out. I love the idea of them being besties and hanging out and having adventures of their own and keeping the ship together when the Big Three have gotten themselves tied up by the Adversary Of The Week. Or you could explore more of their jobs--what exactly is it that they do besides the stuff we see on screen? (I love the novel Death Count by LA Graf, which is all about those three having an Adventure, and if you've read it and want to use it as a springboard, that would be good too.)

Kirk & Uhura: they are besties on the show! AOS threw the spotlight on Spock and Uhura, but Kirk and Uhura actually have more interactions in TOS, and they are always full of mutual support and respect. I'd love to see more of that.

I love Klingons, PARTICULARLY when they're written with depth. The warrior ethos shapes their entire culture, but it's not the only thing about them.

I haven't watched modern Star Trek, you can bring in stuff from that if you want but feel free to ignore it if you want.

William Riker/Deanna Troi/Worf

This is three different cultures, and 'human' is the place in the middle that they all understand, but I'd be interested in something that explored the 'alien' cultures and didn't assume 'human' as normal. Klingon gender roles are that the women are loud and violent and the men read love poetry. Deanna's more the poetry type than the loud and violent type, and I'm not sure how much of a soft side Worf has. So neither of them quite 'fit' Klingon gender/sexual norms. Feel free to bring in the perspective Martok and the others had on mental illness when they were trapped in that Dominion prison camp, that mental illness is an enemy to fight and it takes a lot of strength to fight an enemy in your own head. From that perspective, Deanna is a weapons trainer for the mind. Deanna/Will, there's history, not all of it good, and a reason they haven't been together for a long time. Guinan/Jean-Luc Picard

Guinan is awesome, but please tone down the Magical Negro stereotype--she's not just The Wise Magic Advisor. She's got her own prejudices and traumas. I would love anything that dove into her past or her culture. Picard and Guinan have INCREDIBLE chemistry. Watch Time's Arrow and see the way he LOOKS AT HER. Something with time travel and meeting in the wrong order a la Time's Arrow would be interesting, but so would them hanging out together and being friends. Or an adventure from before they were together on Enterprise. I don't like most of the Picard TV show, but I do appreciate Picard and Guinan's stuff.

Sela: I would love more details about her life, how she got her position, what it's like to be so visibly different, any ambiguity/conflict in her relationship with her mother. Or an AU where she didn't scream and Tasha escaped with her would be great. Her and Spock playing cat and mouse games as he tries to work for Unification and she tries to crush him and his followers would be awesome. Or, in an AU where she and Tasha escaped, maybe she's undercover with Spock?

I absolutely LOVE Ro Laren, she's such a contrast to the rest of them. I'd be interested in an episode-type story set before she defected to the Maquis, or an AU where she didn't for some reason, or something after the Dominion War when she's no longer a terrorist. Or a role-reversal AU where Bajor is the perfect paradise world that's the founder of the Federation and provides most of the people for Starfleet, and Earth is the one conquered by the Cardassians.

Geordi was didn't get much character development, but he was a great guy. Professional even in the face of all the wackiness Star Trek could throw at him, very smart, very compassionate. Geordi rarely got a chance to shine, but I always liked him, and aside from that one episode with the genetically engineered society, they didn't do much with his blindness besides "disabilities give you superpowers" with his visor. What are the downsides to it? What, if any, tradeoffs did he have to make, and was it his choice or something his parents decided for him? Does he ever get grief from fellow officers about "what happens if your visor gets knocked off, you'll be blind!" as if not being able to see would make him incompetent? He's the perfect contrast to Ro, and he and Data have that wonderful friendship that is rock solid that I love to see explored and transmuted into romance.

This is the queer poly family I didn't know I needed. The larger plots of the show are okay, but my favorite part is the stuff of Ye Zhao, Zhao Yujin, and the three concubines together as a family. I headcanon Ye Zhao as bi/pan, and possibly genderfluid in some way. I love the idea of her and the Prince sharing the concubines (but only if the concubines are okay with the idea.) I love the idea of Hu Qing being bi/pan and having been in love with the General since before he knew she was a woman. If you happen to know enough about queerness in pre-19th Century China to feel comfortable writing it, I would be thrilled if historical details got brought in. I'm also interested in the way the household is adapting its ideas of gender/status and roles within the household (is Concubine Yang fulfilling some of the household roles that the wife would normally do, because Ye Zhao is occupied with her military duties?) But I would also just love general slice-of-life stuff with them as a household and learning about each other and caring for one another. I'd love to see Ye Zhao and Yang and Xuan'er and Mianning becoming friends. Or you could have an AU where Ye Zhao marries Hu Qing and they are very happy together and just really good friends with the Prince and the concubines. (I love Hu Qing and like him far more for Ye Zhao than I like her with the Prince, but then I don't get her wonderful dynamic with the concubines, and I do appreciate how Ye Zhao and Zhao Yujin grow together and learn to trust one another over the course of the series.)

I like the Prince, but I also find his petulance and immaturity a bit annoying, and I like him most when he is growing and becoming more responsible and considerate.

Now, the thing about this story is that canon depends on Ye Zhao sexually harassing the Prince to get him to accept her as his wife and sleep with her. And that's pretty gross, especially as canon doesn't condemn it, just treats it as funny because it's a woman doing it. And I would be fine with a story that just pretended that aspect of things didn't happen and everyone had full consent for everything; I would be fine with a story that went AU and got them together some other way; I would be fine with a story that dealt with the fact that what she did was not okay and she learns that. I would *not* want a fic with canon-typical levels of sexual harassment.

The thing I love about the Thrawn trilogy is how smart everyone is, and how they never pass around the idiot ball. I love Mara, how she's a bit messed up from the Emperor but even at her worst she's loyal and practical and ethical and competent, and how she's committed to growing and becoming a better person, but she's gonna do it in her own way. I love Lando because he is a deeply pragmatic and principled man (who was right to put the welfare of his citizens above that of a couple of old friends he hadn't seen in years), who will do the right thing even if it's hard, but who does his bit for the Grand Cause when necessary and then goes back to real life. And I love Luke because he is an idealist, because he always sees the good in people, and because he is kind but not stupid or bland. You could do curtainfic, or smuggling shenanigans, or Dire Imperial Threat to the New Republic, or Mara and Luke exploring Jedi ruins/archives/whatever. Mara providing much-needed pragmatism and outside perspectives on Luke setting up his Jedi training.

Leia and Mara: they often get overshadowed by Luke/Mara, but there were interesting things there. They were both in Imperial power circles in very different ways, and have such different perspectives ... and yet when the chips are down, they can work so well together.

My theory of SW canon is like my theory of comics canon: pick and choose what you like and ignore the rest. You can bring in ST details if you want to, but please no Ben Solo/Kylo Ren, and please don't destroy the New Republic. From the Legends EU, please no Yuuzhan Vong, and I hated the whole "oh, of COURSE Mara couldn't ever really have been with Lando, she doesn't even LIKE him, it was ALL JUST A JOB FROM KARRDE" retcon for like a hundred different reasons. (They don't have to have been together, but if they were, it was an actual real relationship.) Any PT or TV series details are fine to include, if you want.

I love how hopepunk this series is: yes, terrible things have happened, and yes, there are genuinely evil people, and yes, there are people who aren't evil but are nonetheless really awful. And yet, despite it all, good people win. There are people who can be trusted to be good, and kind, and loyal. I love how three-dimensional everyone is, not just the heroes but the villains, too. If you wanted to bring in historical flourishes, I'd be happy with parallels to European history, but I'd be ECSTATIC if you brought in non-Western ideas, practices, structures, clothing styles, and institutions.

I would be interested in what happened after the book, but I would also be interested in AUs. For example: Maia brought to court earlier by his brother! Maia ran away from Edonomee and was doing something else (pirate? courier? poacher? factory worker?) when his father and brothers were killed! Chenelo lived! Chenelo was married to Nemolis instead of Varenechibel, and Maia is Nemolis' son! Etc., etc. Please don't have Maia's time under Setheris' abuse be the focus of the fic.

Chenelo lives! There are so many possibilities. I'm fine with either "she was never sick" or "she got medical treatment she was denied in canon and got better" or pretty much anything. I'm interested in AUs where she was never relegated, or where she lived in relegation with Maia until he inherited, or even where she was relegated and then Varenechibel brought her back to court for some reason. (This is a perfect place for "villain has amnesia"--if Varenechibel hit his head and forgot everything, he'd still be a cold and unpleasant person; but if he didn't remember being in love with Pazhiro, he might not resent Chenelo as much, and might rank "diplomatic relationship with Barizhan" as more important than "my personal resentment".) Or maybe her half sister the pirate came and stole her and Maia away and they've lived quite happily in a foreign land until Varenechibel and his older sons died in the crash. Or maybe Varenechibel dies before she gets relegated, and then the Elvish court marries her off because they need a reason to keep her (and Maia) in the Ethuveraz, because while Maru would probably only want Maia as an heir because he doesn't have one, what if he wants Maia so that his heir will have a claim to the throne of the Ethuveraz. Or maybe Chenelo & Maia get sent back to Barizhan and Maia is Maru's heir!

Arbelan: what was she up to those decades she was relegated? She can't have just been twiddling her thumbs! And unlike Maia, she was not under the power of someone who hated her. (I subscribe to the "Maia was off on dates and she was relegated 40 years instead of 30" theory because otherwise the ages of Varenechibel's kids and the timeline of his marriages become really hard to reconcile.) And what does she get up to once she's in court? We know she's very supportive of Maia, but what does that look like when she's not visiting with him? What else does she fill her time with?
