NWN2: MOTB begins a new adventure with the same main character but a whole new set of companions. The new adventure is about a different conflict and features a different foe. MOTB can also be played without playing NWN2, and although it is an expansion pack, it is also considered by some to be a self contained story for these reasons - almost a LOTR vs The Hobbit kind of scenario. Though, most recommend playing NWN2 first to learn the mechanics, create a custom player character, and better enjoy the callbacks in MOTB.
The 5 companions in MOTB are Safiya, Gannayev-of-Dreams, Kaelyn the Dove, Okku, and One of Many.
The customizable player character is the knight captain.

Yes hi!
While Mask of the Betrayer is formally a DLC, for all intents and purposes it is a standalone sequel with an entirely new story and a new cast of characters (except for the player character aka Knight-Captain). This lack of overlap is why I nominated it as a standalone: there is very little overlap in the casts of the 'main' game and the DLC, and each game has a different set of companions.
Also, please help me out with any groups nominated in this set such as "Companions".
Companions here refers to characters who permanently join the PC's/Knight-Captain's party (in the RPG sense). There are five characters: Safiya, Kaelyn, Gannayev, Okku, and One-of-Many. ( e.g. see https://nwn2.fandom.com/wiki/Companion#Mask_of_the_Betrayer )
Caveat: you cannot have both Okku and One-Of-Many in your party at the same time - specifically, you can only have One-of-Many in your party if you kill Okku. I don't know if that makes the group nomination too unclear?

Thanks for raising that - I think that's okay. Though, certainly, if you're prompting it, let people know if you mean all: all companions who canonically could appear together at once. Otherwise I would assume both Okku and One-of-Many should appear in the same fanwork, though not necessarily in the same scenes.
