For some time, FFFX has had a rule saying that '[works must] meet a basic standard of spelling, grammar, accessibility, and formatting'. That's all very well but when the standard is not defined, it isn't entirely fair on participants. I'm sure it leaves some people worrying needlessly about whether their work is up to snuff - but doesn't provide any useful guidance for those who might benefit from clearer rules.
I've tried to expand this a little in the Round 7 rules, but it's harder than I thought. I'm not personally an artist, and even for fic, I acknowledge that a skilled writer may violate rules of grammar, etc, on purpose to create a desired effect. So I'd be grateful for any feedback.
The current text says:
Art
If created on traditional media, please create on a blank (non-lined) page or other medium, and scan or photograph your work cleanly. Please erase or edit preliminary sketch lines that interfere with the finished product. If your comic includes text, please proofread the text before adding it, or add it in a way where you can edit out errors, and please take care that it is clearly legible.
Fic
Please ensure your work has generally good grammar and spelling and uses tense and point of view consistently. Please ensure comma placement and the use of other punctuation is grammatically correct and consistent. Please check the spellings of canon-specific names and terms, and ensure any names or terms you've invented are consistent. Please ensure standard paragraph breaks - walls of text are not suitable; double spacing is acceptable if that was your intent. Ideally paragraphs should each be separated by a gap of the height of a single line, or (print style) should have no gaps but should start with indents.
Occasional errors are OK in the first draft you upload - very rough text or art is not, as it would not be suitable to go live if you were unable to edit between uploading and reveals.
Please suggest corrections!
