Leverage - how do nominators feel about treating the classic seasons & the most recent season as one canon or separate canons? Together is easiest for me but I don't know the canon.

Detective Conan and Magic Kaito - It was pointed out that these canons have a lot of overlap and are often treated as one. I have accepted several nominations for each, this year, already, but what are people's preferences for that going forward?

I didn't nominate for this fandom, but I do tend to sign up for Leverage. Leverage and Leverage: Redemption are the same canon. The new series is a direct sequel to the original. I'd be down for keeping them as one, especially if that's easiest.

Detective Conan/Magic Kaito

Hi, I think I nominated everything for these fandoms.

So I actually specifically consider myself to be a Magic Kaito fan. While there is some character overlap, the two stories center on different protagonists who are dealing with separate plot lines. There are also significant characterization differences in the primary character who overlaps between them, which shows up in fanworks because works about him written for Magic Kaito portray him very differently than how he's written for Detective Conan.

I consider them to take place in the same universe, but kind of like the way the Thor movies and Captain America movies are the same universe. Yeah, it's the same world, but you're dealing with different character focus and different plots. And there are some characters who do not overlap at all.

Oh and in Magic Kaito, magic exists! And it does not exist in the Detective Conan universe, which is a real problem when you try to treat them as the same story.

I agree. There are a lot of crossovers, including same arcs in both titles presented in both series protagonists POVs and flashbacks with Kaito characters in Conan, but the titles still feel differently. Magic Kaito is like adventure story, there is also a mentioned magic, Conan has more of 'shonen logic science' approach and is more of a mystery story. Comparing to Marvel, if the titles are like Thor and Captain America movies, the equivalent of MCU would be DCMK. There is also a movie universe that also feels differntly. There are additional new stories based on manga/anime canon (mostly Conan, but with Kaito characters appearing), but at one point, they stop being canon compliant and start being canon divergence thing.

I'd much prefer to have Leverage and Leverage: Redemption as a single, combined fandom. They aren't different versions of the story/characters; they're in continuity with each other, with a time lapse in between. (Also, right now I happen to be most interested in stories set during that time lapse! I wouldn't know which fandom to request if they were split up.)

Hey, this may be an issue to query later, there's a couple confusing tags in Scum Villain that aren't clear which character they mean:

Group: Mu Qingfang/Shen Qingqiu (SVSSS)
Group: Liu Qingge/Shen Qingqiu & Monstrous Flora and Fauna (SVSSS)

There are two Shen Qingqius in this canon, both of whom are primarily referred to as Shen Qingqiu and both of whom are major characters. If you check the rest of the tags, most tags clear up which Shen Qingqiu is meant by referring to them as Shen Yuan or Shen Jiu (sometimes with "| Shen Qingqiu").

(If I had to guess they probably mean Shen Yuan, since he's most often referred to as just Shen Qingqiu with Shen Jiu being referred to as Original Shen Qingqiu, but I'm not confident enough in that to say for sure since the only other Mu Qingfang tag is a Shen Jiu tag)

I'm the Scum Villain nominator, still trying to get the hang of this nomination thing! I was specifically thinking of Shen Yuan | Shen Qingqiu for the tag with Liu Qingge (I actually nominated it in a longer format that didn't fit, and forgot to add the piping back in to clarify). For the Mu Qingfang tag, I intended to offer it and am happy to write any version. I have slots left in the fandom, so how about we modify the tag currently in the set to be Shen Yuan | Shen Qingqiu as well, and I'll nominate Mu Qingfang/Original Shen Qingqiu separately?

Seconding/thirding the opinions of the other Leverage folks. I would look to nom/request just from the one fandom and use additional notes about whether or not I would care if stories were set in the first series or the sequel series.

Hi Modzilla,
I noticed that you had put the Emerald Fennell and Josh O’Connor noms in under The Crown (TV) RPF
Is there any chance you could put them in under Actor RPF?
Two reasons for this:
1. I would still like to add in other Actor RPF noms, but I’m going back and forth on which to choose. Whoever they are, they’re not gonna be from the Crown TV show
2. I’m hoping that by being classified under Actor RPF, I might get more interest in the actor/original character noms? Like I’d be just as happy to get a fic of Emerald/OC from somebody who knows her acting work from Call the Midwife or somebody who knows her writer/director work from Killing Eve or Promising Young Woman. But many of those people haven’t seen the Crown.

Okay. In general, I prefer fandoms not to overlap, and I'll either make that clearer next round or change the policy, but it seems unlikely the Actor RPF tag will be used as a huge catch-all this round. I will try to get to that change shortly.
