Comment settings
For a long time, new AO3 works allowed guest commenters by default. In July 2024, AO3 changed that. Now, when you post a new work, the default setting is "Only registered users can comment". This is a protective measure against spam and abuse.
If you want people with no AO3 accounts and people who aren't logged in to have the ability to comment on your work, I recommend you edit your work and select "Registered users and guests can comment". The options for comments are just above the field where you enter the full text of your work.
Comment requirements
FFFX requires participants to comment on their gifts. That doesn't mean you have to comment the moment works go live - though your creator(s) are probably excited to see what you think! - but if you can comment during the anon period, please do. You must have fulfilled commenting requirements before signing up to a future round.
My rules previously said that you must either comment OR you must contact me to confirm you cannot comment. I was planning to change that in the next round, but it occurred to me I don't need to wait. So: if you find that, unfortunately, you are at odds with your gift and cannot comment on it, you are welcome to simply refuse it from your gifts page. Although you're welcome to let me know what problem may have occurred, you don't have to - refusing it is sufficient. (Obviously you're also welcome to choose to refuse a gift later for personal reasons even if you had something positive to say about it at the time.)
While these sad mismatches do occur, I hope that the vast majority of gifts will delight the people who receive them (especially if you check your work against your recipient's DNWs), and I'm excited to get to reveal the collection!
