To me the (slight) danger seems more that someone offering Main Name might also be curious about writing the person who originally had that name... Do we learn anything about the guy he was switched with?

One way of dealing with it might be "Main Name (s3 ep 2)" or whatever season and episode he's in. It won't get canonized that way, but it's clear enough for the tag set.
