Yoru no Nai Kuni | Nights of Azure

Title: Yoru no Nai Kuni | Nights of Azure

Media: Video games - both are action RPGs and first is available for the Playstation 4 while the second is available for the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

Summary: Both games are the love story of two star-crossed women. Long ago, a demon known as the Nightlord threatened to purge the world into an eternal night, but the Nightlord was defeated by the First Saint, spilling blue blood over the world. Arnice, the protagonist of the first game, was one such young woman touched by the blue blood, turning her into a half-demon, and now she uses her powers to battle demonic fiends. When her mission takes her to Ruswal Island, she is reunited with Lilysse, a beloved friend from her school days. Lilysse was chosen as the next Saint, expected to sacrifice herself to prevent the Eternal Night, and as Arnice seeks a way to save Lilysse from her fate, romance develops between the two women.

The second game, Bride of the New Moon, focuses on a different set of protagonists. Aluche's beloved, Liliana, has been selected as a sacrificial bride to the demonic Moon Queen Malvasia, and as Aluche fights to protect Liliana, she is killed by Malvasia and resurrected as a half-demon, much like the legendary Arnice. While struggling with her new powers, Aluche gathers new companions and learns more about the relationships between human and demon, including the truth behind Malvasia's desire to plunge the world into an eternal night.

The canon yuri is what drew me to this game, and the relationship between both sets of protagonists definitely delivered. The loyalty, the heartache, the romance - I love it all! There's a somberness about the setting, with the world on the brink of an eternal night, but despite it all the love between both Arnice/Lilysse and Aluche/Liliana remain true.
